Aren't these sisters such beautiful girls? I worked with Mriah this past summer in CEF and randomly met her again at Starbucks a couple of weeks ago when I was meeting a client. While chatting, she found out why I was there and told me she had been just about to go home and start researching photographers to take her senior portraits! Next thing you know she's calling me, and we're making plans to meet at Empire Mine. But this time the session would include her older sister, Stara, who missed out on portraits her senior year and is now in her junior year at Sac State. Good things comes to those who wait, though, as I think their sister picture is especially cute!

CCF & Fireproof
I wasn't like most young teenagers. My parents would get political updates from organizations like American Family Association and Campaign for Children and Families urging them to call their representatives, sign petitions, or to be sure to vote, and I just couldn't wait to turn 18 years old to be able to do all that too! As evidenced by my calls earlier this week to the Capitol, my love for politics hasn't changed too much over the years.
Last night I was able to use my other love, photography, to give back to one of those organizations that has worked tirelessly to protect us. Campaign for Children and Families booked a whole showing for the movie Fireproof and invited all their supporters to watch it for free! They asked me to shoot the event to use for their future newsletter/promotions. With that call, God was answering my prayers for opportunities to use photography as a ministry to serve others.
This is the picture Randy liked.

But I like this one better. ;-)

The movie itself was spectacular! The quality was even better than Facing the Giants, and the message was powerful. The friends we invited last night went back, told their church about it, and offered $2 to each person that went to see it! My family called all our friends today to encourage them to go see it as well. I'm praying that God will work mightily through this movie. If you haven't seen it yet, you're missing out! Hurry before it's too late!!

Elfreth's Alley
When I was in Philadelphia last month, I set out to explore all the hidden historical points. Well, not exactly hidden, but not as famous as say the Liberty Bell. Elfreth's Alley was one such spot. Known as the oldest occupied street in the United States, it is filled with the quaintest houses. Each one was painted differently. Some were decorated with window boxes, others with beautiful iron work. One thing that caught my eye was the variety of doorknockers. What do they tell you about the people that originally lived in these houses?

Shramsberg Estates Wedding | Emily & Jon
Emily began as my sister's friend, but it only took one time of staying up all night laughing at my lack of Star Wars knowledge for me to gain a new friend. Through Awana then Child Evangelism Fellowship, we worked and got to know each other even better. She was my co-director in Sparks until she left to go to school in southern California. It was my loss, but Jon's gain. They met through a mutual friend in the Marines. What started as friendship didn't end there. In July 2007, Jon asked Emily to marry him. She wasn't the only one to be surpised! Everyone on facebook was so excited and happy for her! Now a year later, they are beginning a new life together with even more changes ahead.
Emily and Jon, I was honored to be a part of your wedding! Thank you especially for pulling strings, Emily, and allowing me to be even more involved in your special day!

And while this isn't the best picture (sorry guys!), here is the wonderfully generous Amy who allowed me to shoot alongside her and her assistant, Dave.

My Love/Hate Relationship with Technology
You can't live without it, yet it has the ability to make your life miserable. Yes, technology has done more to further mankind and drive them insane at the same time. It came to my attention while viewing my website on my cousin's mac that not all browsers are created equal. I've worked on changing my website so that more people can view it correctly, but if you're still having problems, such as words and pictures overlapping, get a better browser. ;-)

On to the good news! Lydia Photography has a Facebook business page! Now you can easily show off your pictures to your friends! Become a fan and ask for your pictures to be tagged if they aren't already.
So while I still can't get my header picture to show up and things may continue to look crazy now and then as I keep trying, I think I'll stick to living in the 21st century. I may have a few days where I feel insane because I think my hard drive is crashing, but there's no way I could go back to film, a dark room, and paying to see if my prints turned out right!

USC Senior Portraits | Josh
From sneaking around in the dark to whirlpools in the swimming pool to building houses with cardboard and making wooden swords, we've done it all. I've known Josh and his younger siblings, Sarah and JP, forever. They were literally long lost cousins, discovered by chance. Yet that one chance meeting developed into singing together, playing together, partying together, holidays together, and growing up together. Even when we had the whole boys vs girls war going on, us six cousins were always the best of friends.
Over time we grew apart, but the first person I called when I needed help with a Mac decision was Josh. Now he's a USC graduate and looking to go to medical school. Who knew all those years ago he'd be interested in medicine while I'm taking what was once a hobby into a business. I don't know about him, but I'm sure glad it turned out this way!

One of my all time favorites!

Run!

Oh to be like those brave firemen who rushed into danger's way, forgetting about themselves, in order to save others. Are you ready, Christian? Ready to run?

Business Katrina
Growing up they had Veterinarian Barbie, Babysitter Barbie, Dentist Barbie, Malibu Barbie, Cooking Barbie, and many many more. There was nothing Barbie couldn't do. Well, Katrina is her real life counterpart. In a way. She has been one of my biggest cheerleaders as I began pursuing photography as a business. While we live three hours apart, it doesn't keep her from being my guinea pig and permanent model. You've seen Sister Katrina, Glamour Katrina, and Tree Katrina. Now I bring to you Business Katrina!

But it wouldn't be a true Katrina photo shoot without some fun shots!

Melody | Just Because
As many of my friends can attest, a visit to my house almost always equals a photo shoot. Melody was no exception. Doesn't she have such amazing blue eyes? It was lovely seeing you and being able to talk about deep, fun, and girly things, Melody. Come and visit again soon!

Summer's Gone
With a cool crisp air blowing and the sun shining, California is welcoming in fall weather. Soon it will be time for apple picking, hay rides, scarves and mittens. This is my favorite of time of year! Having a birthday coming up doesn't hurt either. Goodbye summer and hello fall!
