Texas 2016 | Magnolia Market at the Silos

Even up to the morning of the idea of being able to visit Magnolia Market at the Silos seemed like a dream. But there we were loading up into our rental car to head out on a 2 1/2 hour drive to Waco, Texas! And what a drive it was–cute little towns with fields of wildflowers in between and just great, quality time with my aunt and uncle!

But before we go any further, I have a confession to make. While my sisters and mom have been watching Fixer Upper with Chip and Joanna Gaines, the creators of Magnolia Market and the Silos, from the very beginning, I had only seen a few episodes while my plane was stuck on the Chicago runway last summer. But from their descriptions, the few episodes I’d seen, and occasionally perusing their instagram feeds, I knew I loved them and their style!

So maybe it was because I hadn’t watched every episode that I thought the Silos would be on the outskirts of Waco, more out in the country. Imagine my surprise when the gps led us right into the middle of town, and there it was!

It was a little surreal being there in person! There’s still so much being built and added weekly!

When we arrived we were starving and headed straight to the food trucks. A couple were closed but we divided between the rest that were open to try them all out! The Co-Town Crepes truck was so cute!

They also had a juice bar and fire grilled pizza!

But my absolute favorite was hands down the Cowboy Coffee at Common Grounds! I don’t know if it was just the secret sauce or also their coffee beans, but it was so smooth and creamy! I’m addicted and going through withdrawal as I type… It was the perfect thing to sip as we walked around the gardens.

Little fairy gardens created by Joanna and her girls were scattered around the garden as well as this tipi for kids that would soon be covered completely with vines!

I had so much fun snapchatting the trip that sometimes I didn’t always get everything with my camera lol. Sometimes the iPhone is just too handy! But check out the grass turf area on the right with the Stay & Play toys for kids and families to hang out and have fun together!

Coming Soon–the Magnolia Flour bakery! I peeked inside and everything is already so cute! But no surprise there! Everything at the Silos was intentionally created and designed. Even the outdoor bathrooms had cute signs and beautiful white subway tile!

Before the long ride home we opted to stop by the Commons Grounds coffee shop and grab one last cup for the road. We ended up choosing the Cowboy Coffee’s cousin, a frozen cappuccino which also featured the amazing special sauce, and The Heisman which tasted like green mint ice cream!

Some of the family wandered next door to the newly opened Heritage Creamery for some yummy ice cream!

Tips for Visiting Magnolia Market the Silos:

  • Because the Silos are in the middle of town, you will be parking where ever you can find along the streets. Be careful as the church/school nearby has reserved parking and don’t park where not allowed.
  • If you can, try to go on one of the least busy days of the week. We went on a Thursday and still wished it was a little more empty to be able to enjoy it all a little more. I did notice that late afternoon had cleared out a little bit but plan to come early enough to be able to explore and not be rushed at closing time. (closed on Sundays)
  • If you haven’t been to Texas before, they’re not kidding when they warn about the heat. It was a pretty perfect day when we went but still the direct sun was brutal. Bring water, a hat, and drink down that iced Cowboy Coffee!
  • Magnolia Market has amazing, inspiring displays and everything is carefully curated. But just keep in mind that many boutiques and stores like Pottery Barn and Anthropologie have very similar products styles just so you’re not disappointed.
  • If you’re planning to buy things at Magnolia Market do all your shopping first. Someone can run everything to the car so you don’t have to carry it around and your receipt becomes a 10% off coupon for the food trucks!
  • If you’re a t-shirt lover just know that places like Harp Design Co., Common Grounds, and Heritage Creamery also sell their own t-shirts. I got the #shiplap design for myself but also loved the cute, ice cream graphic word design at Heritage Creamery!
  • If you have food allergies or just want something a little healthier at the food trucks, the crepe truck will turn your crepe toppings into a salad! My sister got a spinach, turkey, pesto, tomato, cheese salad, and I think it turned out to be the yummiest thing we ordered!
  • We were a little distracted by the long drive home so we didn’t visit all the other places we should have while in Waco. So be sure to make time to stop by Harp Design Co. and just explore a little in Waco. Magnolia Market has maps you can grab that show some of the local attractions. Also the Magnolia House bed and breakfast is in the town of McGregor outside of Waco. Oh and more Magnolia might be coming to Waco as the Gaines just purchased the historic Elite Cafe!

Another beautiful 2 1/2 hours later and we were pulling into the driveway of that night’s home away from home!
